History
Our story starts way back in 2012, with a devastating diagnosis.

- Oct 2015 - Megan Is Placed on the heart transplant waitlist
- feb 2016 - Megan recieves a lifesaving heart transplant
- jul 2016 - the mehta family become donate life ambassadors
- feb 2026 - The mehta family launch megan mehta family foundation
- Future - continue our work to bring more joy to children receiving complex prolonged in-patient medical treatment
2012 – At 8 years, Megan was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy with an unconfirmed root cause. She received in-patient treatment at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital (formerly Oakland Children’s Hospital). After spending 3 weeks in the hospital, including 2 in the ICU, she finally came home.
However, her life had totally changed. She could no longer run around on the playground with her friends, and was required to quit all of her favorite sports. Her new normal kept her alive, but limited her ability to truly live in color.
2015 – Although she was stable for four years, at the age of 12, Megan’s condition rapidly deteriorated and she was placed on the heart transplant waitlist at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.
2016 – After four excruciating physically & emotionally painful months filled with countless blood draws, painful IVs, hours in the hospital, and social isolation, Megan received a life saving heart transplant.
To celebrate the gift of life, the Mehta family become Donate Life Ambassadors and volunteer countless hours to spread organ donation awareness.
2026 – To celebrate her 10 year heart transplant anniversary and help restore a sense of childhood joy for pediatric patients, the Mehta family launches the Megan Mehta Family Foundation. Within a year, we’ve donated 17,000+ items, an estimated $250,000 in value.
Beyond 2026! – As we grow our reach and impact, we hope to bring joy and advance comfort in pediatric care.
